How long does it (usually) take installers to seal cabinet bases across telecoms networks? We’ve just made it quicker.
FILOform has long been the market leader when it comes to sealing the telecoms sector – with our existing Virgin Media specified solution used as a default cabinet base sealant nationwide. This doesn’t mean that we’re complacent when it comes to ongoing product innovation.
To that end, we’re proud to enter a new solution to market. Cabinet Base Sealant Plus is a new, non-hazardous, re-enterable cabinet base sealant . This formulation delivers the proven performance of our traditional two-part systems, with a newly reduced hazard profile and a cure time of just 20 minutes.
Here’s a closer look at the new product – including key features, benefits, and the inside story on its ideation.

Rethinking cabinet base sealing for modern infrastructure
Cabinet base sealants plays a critical role in protecting infrastructure assets from water ingress, pests, vegetation growth, humidity, and long-term environmental exposure. However, each sealing method comes with its own considerations. For example:
01
Lesser-labelled, but regularly documented to take weeks or even months to fully cure on site. Subsequently require revisits before installations can be completed with confidence.
02
Can involve various challenges such as mess, standardisation issues, difficult application processes, and re-entry challenges.
03
A two-component solution that does the job quickly, easily, and well – and has been doing so for decades. However, the solution also involves more heavily labelled materials.
Installation example: FILOform’s traditional Virgin Media specification cabinet base sealantDemo: an example one-component solution still unset several weeks after being poured (non-FILOform)
Our new “Plus” cabinet base sealant solution has been developed to address all the above challenges directly.
The result is a fast-setting, re-enterable sealing system designed around installer practicality, environmental responsibility, and long-term infrastructure protection.
Key product highlights
A closer look at installation
Ease of installation is always a key priority with FILOform products. This new telecoms cabinet base sealant makes sealing straightforward – offering full completion well within an hour.
Plus, the clever formulation allows the resin to be applied in wet or damp conditions. This further reinforces our commitment to on-site safety by eliminating the health risks associated with alternative solutions. (Such as gel products that recommend the use of cement dust – known to pose long-term health risks to the respiratory system.)
Instead, our solution blends sealing performance with installation speed, safety, and simplicity. The standard install process follows just 5 key steps:
1: Prepare the base by clearing, cleaning, and adding a levelled 5mm layer of kiln-dried sand2: Tilt the bag up and down to mix the resin for 2 minutes3: Insert and twist to secure the supplied pouring tube into the resin bag4: Direct the pouring tube at the base of the cabinet and wait ~5s for the resin to flow. Apply evenly, making sure all the resin is used. 5: Allow 20 minutes for the product to cure. Done!

Fast installation facts:
– Straightforward two-component mixing process that takes ~2 minutes
– Self-levelling flow properties for easy application
– Accurate filling process when pouring the resin
– Smooth, non-tacky finish
– Suitable for wet and damp environments
– No cement dust required during installation
– Sets in approximately 20 minutes
“At FILOform, we listen – and respond to – the industry’s pain points. As part of that, we know that asset owners are increasingly looking for the most environmentally responsible product choices.
So, we analysed our existing cabinet base sealant portfolio and saw a gap for a lesser-label option that could also offer a fast finish.
Our new cabinet base sealant uses a non-hazardous resin manufactured to rigorous quality standards.
It’s the best of every world: a safe and re-enterable solution that cures rapidly and comes with the FILOform standard.”

Designed for faster project completion
A major differentiator for our new cabinet base sealant is this rapid cure speed.
Unlike some one-part sealing systems that can take significant time to fully cure on-site, our two-part solution sets in ~20 minutes. This allows installers to complete sealing works in a single visit. They can leave site without lengthy waiting periods, and without return trips. On large-scale rollout programmes, these time savings quickly add up.
The cured resin also remains fully re-enterable. So, any future cable additions, removals, and maintenance activities can be completed easily and without destroying the seal.

Fast product design facts:
– Lower-hazard, lesser-labelled formulation
– Non-hazardous ingredients
– Supports single-visit installations
– Re-enterable for future cable works
– Clean removal compared to some gel-based alternatives
– Helps reduce future maintenance disruption
– Will seal everything from telecom cabinets, feeder pillars, lighting columns, traffic control systems, and LV enclosures
“Installers typically need to cover multiple cabinet jobs on a single shift – often under tight schedules.
With that in mind, they need solutions that are not only easy to install, but rapidly hard-curing.
That setting speed was also a major focus during the development of our new cabinet base sealant.
We wanted to create a solution that delivers long-term performance, while also making life easier on site through faster curing, easier handling, and simpler future maintenance.”

Protecting long-term infrastructure performance
Beyond its speed and safety benefits, our new re-enterable cabinet base sealant has been developed to support long-term asset reliability.
By sealing against moisture ingress, rodents, insects, weeds, roots, and vegetation growth, the resin helps maintain cleaner, drier cabinet environments. This reduces the humidity and condensation risks that can contribute to things such as:
– Corrosion
– Signal interference
– Insulation failure
– Reduced equipment lifespan
To list but a few!
