The challenge:
A major sewage treatment works upgrade brings complexity by default. You’re dealing with multiple workstreams, multiple contractors, and critical infrastructure that can’t afford failure.
For this project, duct sealing formed just one part of a much wider site upgrade programme. But, that part formed was a critical element.
Power control rooms and transformer locations require robust, fully compliant sealing to protect against ingress. (I.e., water ingress, gas migration, and long-term environmental exposure.)
Our challenge went beyond supplying the sealing solutions. Team FILOform was also needed for on-site training – ensuring consistency across multiple teams, under live site conditions, and with multiple installers working in parallel.
The difference on major projects like this is support. That’s just where FILOform specialises.
By training installers on site and staying involved during installation, we make sure sealing isn’t left open to interpretation or guesswork.
We help teams on the ground ensure that sealing – all too often poorly planned – is delivered consistently, safely, and to spec across the entire project.
The solution:
FILOform worked directly with the on-site teams to take control of the sealing process from the outset.
Installers were split into four working groups, each responsible for different areas of the site. We provided hands-on training for 10 installers, ensuring every team understood the correct installation methodology and compliance requirements.
With preparation complete, the works followed a structured process:
- Installation of hex sleeves across all required entries
- Inspection of each duct to confirm readiness for sealing
- Application of FILOform sealing systems to secure each penetration
And, throughout the sealing project, our FILOform water sector expert moved between all four teams. So, the teams on the ground gained real-time feedback, installation support (and corrections) as needed, and assurance of consistent sealing quality across the site.
The results:
By combining product performance with on-site expertise, the project achieved:
- Consistent, compliant seals across multiple work areas
- Improved installer confidence through hands-on training
- Minimised risk of rework or post-installation failures
- A controlled, standardised approach to sealing within a complex upgrade programme
Most importantly, critical power infrastructure was protected. Our customer has now ensured long-term performance in a demanding wastewater environment.
On sewage treatment works duct sealing projects like this, the challenge isn’t just the seal itself.
Consistency must be maintained across multiple teams under pressure.
By working directly with installers on site, we can make sure every seal will last long-term, rather than just passing an initial inspection. That’s what protects the specification and asset life.
